Perhaps it is written in his DNA, or simply the landscape he has always had before his eyes: for Hervé Barmasse, the mountain is identity, vocation, and destiny. Born and raised at the foot of the Matterhorn, he followed in the footsteps of his father Marco, becoming a ski and snowboard instructor at eighteen and a mountain guide at twenty-two, continuing a family tradition of four generations.
His career began right on his home mountain, the Matterhorn, where he achieved milestones of modern alpinism: solo climbs, new routes, and first ascents that redefined
how to face one of the world’s most iconic peaks. From there, his vision expanded to Patagonia and the great walls beyond Europe.
Alongside his climbing, Hervé is also a passionate communicator: through books, lectures,
and documentaries, he shares the authentic value of the mountains, the importance of respecting the environment, and the deep meaning of adventure in a light and responsible style.
