Ragni di Lecco

Ragni della Grignetta

Ragni di Lecco in their favorite habitat: the mountains

The Ragni della Grignetta, known worldwide as the Ragni di Lecco, are one of the most prestigious climbing groups on the international scene. With over 70 years of history, they have achieved legendary ascents on mountains across every continent, helping to write key chapters in modern alpinism.

Born on the walls of the Grigna, their achievements have always been driven by an unyielding spirit of adventure and exploration, even in the face of changes in mountaineering and society. The red sweater with the seven-legged spider is a symbol of heritage, responsibility, and pride: sometimes a heavy weight to bear, but always a constant motivation to pursue dreams and ambitions.

Debate, the exchange of ideas — sometimes heated — and the strong connection to their history remain the distinctive traits of the group. Many of the great pioneers are no longer here, but their legacy lives on in the new generations of climbers who carry the name of the Ragni to walls all over the world.

The group also documents its history and activities on their official YouTube channel, featuring archive footage, expedition reports, and interviews with the Ragni community — a valuable resource for discovering not only their major ascents but also behind-the-scenes stories.

Among today’s “Red Sweaters” are Matteo Della Bordella, Paolo Marazzi, Luca Schiera, and Matteo De Zaiacomo.
