Hiking Recommendations in Zell-Gerlos, Zillertal Arena

Why Zell-Gerlos Is the Perfect Hiking Destination for Every Level

Fresh mountain air, crystal clear streams, and a panorama ranging from gentle alpine meadows to striking peaks – that is exactly what awaits you in Zell-Gerlos in the Zillertal Arena. Here, varied hiking trails meet genuine nature experiences: sometimes leisurely and family friendly, sometimes challenging with an alpine character. And best of all? Many tours can be perfectly combined with a stop at traditional mountain huts.

Whether you prefer a relaxed walk through the valley or want to celebrate two summit successes in one day, we have put together two very different hiking recommendations for you. The only question is: where do you start?

Tour 1: Challenging Circular Hike with Two Summit Successes

The Isskogel gondola takes you comfortably up to the mountain station and as soon as you step out, you can feel it: today, a real mountain adventure awaits. From there, trail no. 1 leads to the Isskogel (2,264 m), a first summit with impressive views. The route then continues along a narrow ridge to the Kreuzjoch (2,558 m), where surefootedness is essential.
The descent takes you to the wild and romantic Langensee, a perfect spot for a short break. From there, you continue hiking to the idyllic Wilden Krimmlalm and finally follow trail no. 2 through the upper Krummbach Valley to the cozy Krummbachrast. After a well-deserved stop for refreshments, it is about a one hour walk back to the valley station in Gerlos.

approx. 7 h | challenging | surefootedness and good physical condition required

Tour 2: Family Friendly Hike into the Schönach Valley

This tour shows the gentle side of Zell-Gerlos and is perfect for families and those who enjoy taking things at a relaxed pace. The starting point is the music pavilion in Gerlos, from where the gently ascending trail no. 511 leads into the idyllic Schönach Valley. After a short time, you reach the Jörgleralm (1,300 m), followed by the Stinkmoosalm (1,350 m), where a wonderful view opens up over the valley. Always walking alongside the babbling Schönach stream, you continue to the Lackenalm (1,400 m), which you reach after about one hour. The traditional huts are ideal for a break.
Tip:
From the junction towards the Issalm, the further ascent on trail no. 7 is well worth it. The forest road climbs gently up to the Stackerlalm (1,850 m). Once at the top, you are rewarded with an impressive view of the Schönachkees glacier.

approx. 3–4.5 h | easy to moderate | family friendly
